GOCA Reopens in Late August
GOCA is thrilled to announce we will be welcoming visitors by scheduled appointment to the Ent Center for the Arts Gallery starting Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Following months of planning and preparation, we are ready to open our doors to our community with safety measures in place. GOCA and UCCS are committed to adhering to COVID-19 guidelines for safe operation by limiting visitors to 10 at a time, requiring face coverings for all, and adhering to spacing and social distancing requirements.

To ensure everyone’s safety, participants will be required to sign a digital social contract committing to adhere to safety protocols, and the gallery space itself will feature one way entrance and exit doors, health and safety signage, hand sanitizer stations, propped open doors for increased airflow, and limited bathroom access in the Ent Center for the Arts. In addition, the gallery space will sanitized thoroughly between visits by wiping down all contact surfaces. Visits to the gallery will be a contactless experience and all staff of the university, Ent Center for the Arts and galleries will adhere to safety protocols.

We are delighted to reopen the monumental and groundbreaking art installation by New Mexico-based artists Jane Lackey and Thomas Lehn – Seat of Learning. Watch a sneak peak here.

Visits are scheduled a minimum of one day in advance – no drop in visits will be available. Visits are 45 minutes in length, and group registration up to 10 attendees is possible with the easy webform. Visits are available Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Depending on demand, additional days/times may be added.

Virtually Presented for Fall 2020 via Zoom: free registration

Talking with artists and writers about their creative lives is a powerful way to grow our understanding of ourselves and our culture. Since 2012, the UCCS Visiting Artists & Critics Series has featured nationally and internationally known artists and critics for community and university audiences. Founded by the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art and the UCCS Visual Art and Art History with a goal to foster understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through dialogue and critical conversations, the series continues this fall with virtual webinar presentations.

Two of the artists presenting this fall – Danielle Rae Miller and Sara Z. Meghdari - are part of the FEARS: Female Emerging Artist Residency Series. FEARS is curated by Dr. Katherine Guinness, VAPA’s Director of Art History, and features emerging professional artists in residence at GOCA Downtown. Artists Jane Lackey and Thomas Lehn have created the Seat of Learning multimedia and monumental installation at GOCA’s Ent Center for the Arts space, which will reopen to the public in late August through November 15, 2020, by appointment only.
