Ent Center for the Arts

Theatreworks
This is the final week,Theatreworks presents its in-person performance of
The Mitten at the Ent Center for the Arts!

The Mitten is creating quite a buzz. In fact, this outdoor theatre experience has been featured in the local news.

"The Mitten: A Midwinter Puppetry Fable," was created by the puppetry team of Katy Williams, of Katy Williams Design, and Julie Parker, of JParker Arts. The original script written by Theatreworks’ Artistic Director Caitlin Lowans, is adapted from an Ukrainian folk tale about a boy who loses his mitten on a cold winter evening only to have it become a communal shelter for forest animals of all different sizes. Original music was composed by Sean Schaffer Hennessy.
"This is a time where a ‘be kind and generous’ message is good," Lowans says.

Unlike traditional theatre, "The Mitten" will have audiences walk around the outside of the Ent Center and pass through five separate story stations helmed by small teams of puppeteers casting shadows on paper curtains draped over the Ent Center’s windows (which range from 12-feet to 20-feet tall).

The entire show takes 30 minutes to walk through and enjoy safely, with groups being limited to no more than 12 patrons. Masks are mandatory.

"We wanted to give people a reason to fall in love with the Ent Center, because we haven’t been able to welcome people here," Lowans says.

After all, having in-person interactions is what makes theatre and the arts so special in the first place.

"This is a chance to have 30 minutes of pure delight that will light up the next couple weeks or months that we’re spending inside to keep each other safe."

Come See "The Mitten" 6-8:30 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for youths, and free to UCCS students. Slots are limited and this is the last week of the production- swoop up your today!
*This production is outdoors so please dress accordingly. Also due to the small group nature of this outdoor event, show times will start promptly. All shows canceled due to weather will be moved to Sunday Feb. 28.
